All the funding raised by KBN’s green bond issues is used exclusively for lending to customers as green loans.

We report on key indicators, such as the amount of greenhouse gas emissions avoided, the amount of renewable energy produced or the increase in capacity for water and wastewater treatment facilities.

The projects we finance contribute to:

  • 50,938 tonnes CO2e reduced and avoided annually
  • 37 GWh energy reduced and avoided annually
  • 109 GWh renewable energy produced annually

By the end of 2019, we had the equivalent of NOK 16,6
billion outstanding in green bonds, comprising SEK, NOK,
USD and AUD. This makes us one of Norway’s most active
issuers of green bonds.

Green loan growth accounted for 49 percent of the bank’s total growth in lending. In 2019, 6.2 billion NOK were disbursed to
green projects.

KBN is one of the contributors to Nordic Public Sector Issuers (NPSI): “Position Paper on Green Bonds Impact Reporting” and uses this the basis for its environmental impact reporting. This year’s impact report also contains a description of how KBN’s new criteria for green projects align with the proposed EU taxonomy for sustainable economic activities.
